Sex offenders in Virginia are required to submit their personal information to the state’s sex offender registry. The information required are fingerprint, Social Security number, complete address, location where the offender is employed during conviction, the date of birth and a description of the offense.  Offenders that are working for or a learning institution, whether it is in VI must also submit Whenever a change in address will take place, the Virginia sex offender registry must be notified in advance to proper changes can be made. Before moving to a new residence outside the state, the Virginia law enforcement agency must be informed 10 days in advance.
Arrested individuals are required to register once convicted. Registration is also required within three days after being released from prison. People convicted with more extreme crimes like sexual violence or murder, are required by law to reregister every 30 days with the State Police. Failure to comply with the rules is considered a crime.
